Check THREE Promising Courses by Coursera

Coursera launches many courses on September 2013. There are just three courses that catch my attention. My only criterion of choice is watching the instructors’ introductory videos. You will not believe it. I know that these short videos are not enough to judge the quality of the whole experience, but they have a very great impact on learners before starting their journey of learning. Please check this great article by Sarah Linden to know more about the reasons behind using video introductions rather than text-based ones when creating your online courses. Kindly explore each course info and choose what you need and add to your expertise:

1. Creativity, Innovation, and Change

Start: Sep 1st 2013 (8 weeks long)
Workload: 6-8 hours/week

Instructors: Dr. Jack V. Matson, Dr. Darrell Velegol and Dr. Kathryn W. Jablokow
About the Course:
This course empowers learners to develop their creative human potential to improve, enhance, and transform  their businesses, communities, and personal lives. Processes like Intelligent Fast Failure will teach you rapid prototyping skills, while the Adaption-Innovation creative style spectrum will help you understand how and why your ideas are unique – and how you can work better with others to solve complex problems. Personal reflection tools like CENTER add a character development dimension to the course that is an important first step towards unlocking your creative potential. Along the way, you will engage with a rich set of tools, exercises, and metrics in order to understand these concepts and how they impact the development of your creative life and career.

Start: Sep 21st 2013 (6 weeks long)
Workload: 4-5 hours/week

Instructors: Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Barkley, Dr. Ted Blake and Dr. Lorrie Ross
About the Course:

Learn to become an effective builder of sentences using the basic tools of grammar, punctuation, and writing. By dedicating yourself to the craft of writing, you will learn to use the eight parts of speech and grammar to develop the four basic sentence types into a well-organized, detailed paragraph. This course is designed for anyone who wants to become a better writer. If you need to write more clearly for work, prepare for a placement test for a college, or improve your skills for current writing projects, this class will definitely be beneficial. To know more about how it goes, please read my reflections here. I took the first round of this course and enjoyed it so much.

Start: Sep 30th 2013 (5 weeks long)

Workload: 2-4 hours/week

This course provides teachers with the foundation for understanding the movement towards virtual instruction. It introduces fundamental knowledge needed by teachers to succeed in a technology-dependent, instructional environment. You will explore the history of online learning and understand how a variety of delivery models are evolving in the K-12 environment, ranging from completely online to hybrid or blended classrooms. Upon completion of the course, you will understand what it takes to transition from teaching in the classroom to providing virtual instruction.
